Spring Reading Thing 2011: An Update

Hello all!!  Just wanted to let you know how my reading is progressing.  I finished "The House at Riverton" last week.  Very good book.  Totally a good read.  Kate Morton did not disappoint.  I added another book to my list that I MUST read by the beginning of July.  My Rangers and I are doing a challenge where we all read the same book and then discuss it!  I love it.  Anyway, we are reading "Water for Elephants".  So far?  Well, it's okay.  I am not sure I would pick this book to read on my own.  It's well written and all, but I have no interest in the circus whatsoever.  Anyway, hopefully I will be done it in a couple of weeks and then on to another book....

There are several I am interested in reading. "The Paris Wife" is the story of Hemingway's wife.  I think that sounds awesome.  There is also "Sarah's Key" that looks good.  Also, "The Secret Daughter" and "Room".  Anyway, you know what I'll be doing this summer!! READING!!

On a side note, what do you all think about e-readers?  I would be interested to know your opinion.  I recently have said that I would NEVER buy one...BUT if you could highlight and save sections and quotes...Then easily find them later....That would be awesome.  I don't know if you can or not, but still....Anyway, share your thoughts!!

Here's my updated reading list...

1) Little Bee - Chris Cleave (Read)

2)  Lake of Dreams - Kim Edwards (Read)

3) The House at Riverton - Kate Morton (Read)

4) The Distant Hours - Kate Morton

5) Bringing Up Boys - Dr. James Dobson (Read)

6) Water for Elephants - Sara Gruen (Currently Reading)

Ahhh... Mr. Darcy

So I was in Starbucks yesterday morning.  Emma was in Preschool, so you will often find me here.  I like to go and do homework, read, spend time with God and, of course, have a coffee.  Yesterday was a regular morning, until I looked up.

There at a table across the way was Colin Firth's twin brother.  Okay.  He had glasses.  He also had some unwanted facial hair (I say unwanted because Colin (we're on a first name basis) doesn't have any)!  He was also a bit chubbier.  But still.  The eyes.  The dimples, the hair...It was all there.

Needless to say, I did the next most important thing: sent a text to my sister and hubby.  Jen wanted me to get a picture.  Jonathan thought I should go up and start talking in an English accent.  I did neither of those.  First of all, he was looking down the whole time doing a crossword puzzle (not writing his sister Georgiana).  Secondly, he left quite abruptly after receiving a phone call which made him quite perturbed (or proud - hard to say).  So, we will have to content ourselves with pictures of the original man himself!

I had to share.  Now I have a huge urge to watch P&P.  If you wonder what I am doing this weekend, that will probably be on my list!!  Until then, enjoy this fan video, which I've shared before, but it bears repeating!!

My Dad...

My Dad's cancer is back in his other lung. We found out a week and a half ago. Life has been hard since then. One day at a time is all we can do. We will know more when he goes to see an oncologist here in Calgary. No more flying to Toronto. He will do all his appointments and such from here. The truth is that they won't be able to do much. Just take away the pain when it comes. So, we have been praying (God still works miracles), and just reflecting on life and what we want to do with Dad this coming year (Hopefully a year).

Anyway, it is hard, but we are getting through it. The prayers have been great. I can feel God with me since we found out. Prayer is amazing. Also, God has been speaking to me through worship, the service last night, my Bible study on Mondays...He's just been there, which is AWESOME!! God is so good. I will trust in Him through this time. It's all I can do!!

Here's the song that I have been listening to this morning. Jonathan is on worship team this weekend and they are doing this song. I LOVE the words. So timely!!

I hope that you are all having a good weekend. I will give you updates on the Dad when I have them. Thanks for all you support and prayers. I know they will be awesome!!

Christ is Risen Indeed!!

After the Sabbath, as the first light of the new week dawned, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to keep vigil at the tomb. Suddenly the earth reeled and rocked under their feet as God's angel came down from heaven, came right up to where they were standing. He rolled back the stone and then sat on it. Shafts of lightning blazed from him. His garments shimmered snow-white. The guards at the tomb were scared to death. They were so frightened, they couldn't move.

The angel spoke to the women: "There is nothing to fear here. I know you're looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed.
Now, get on your way quickly and tell his disciples, 'He is risen from the dead. He is going on ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.' That's the message."

The women, deep in wonder and full of joy, lost no time in leaving the tomb. They ran to tell the disciples. Then Jesus met them, stopping them in their tracks. "Good morning!" he said. They fell to their knees, embraced his feet, and worshiped him. Jesus said, "You're holding on to me for dear life! Don't be frightened like that. Go tell my brothers that they are to go to Galilee, andthat I'll meet them there."

Holy Week Song #1... (And Tuesday Tunes)

Recently been playing around with Tumblr.  Not crazy about it, but it is cool that you can upload songs, audio, video, etc.

Anyway, you will have to go here: http://parisenbleu.tumblr.com/post/4756902167/holy-week-where-the-nails-were-all-rights-go for today's blog post and song!  Yes, it is me singing...long, long ago...  Still love this song, though.

It's Monday....

Here we are, at the start of a new week.  A busy one, too.  Lots going on.

Tonight I am leading worship at my Bible study.  I am excited since I am doing a little something different.  A mini Good Friday service, if you will.  Should be interesting...  First time doing something like this, but I believe it is totally from God.  I will continue to pray all day so that God will be at the center no matter what.

Also, starting to tutor on Wednesday.  My Mom and I are team tutoring.  It should be good.

Thursday night, my sister and I are going to see Frank Warren the PostSecret guy.  I am so excited.  He is having a book signing afterwards that I think we will try and stay for.  I mean, it's Frank.  I feel like I know him, even though I don't...not really anyway.  All of the proceeds go to the Suicide Prevention Line, so it is for a good cause.  Anyway, check the website (www.postsecret.com) if you have no idea what I am talking about.

Friday I am off to horseback riding camp for the night.  We are back Saturday night at 9 or so.  I am excited because I don't get to ride horses very often.  Jonathan is allergic to them, which means I will have to throw all my clothes in the wash as SOON as I get home.  Then head straight into the shower.  Do not pass go.  Do not collect $200...

Anyway, I am very excited about this week, but I am also getting tired just thinking about it!!  Ah well, God will give me strength!  Here is one of the awesome songs I am doing tonight!!  Enjoy!

Friday Fill-in: Fun, Fun, Fun, Fun...

Happy Friday, everyone!!  Sorry it has been awhile again.  I am trying to sneak in some homework, worship prep for Bible study and some real quality time with the kids.  Also, I have been seriously trying to write...stories, that is.  Anyway, if you are wondering where I am, that's where.

Here's a Fill-in, though.  Thought I could at least do that!!

And...here we go!

1. In the near darkness I wake in the morning to the alarm.  And then I sigh...At least it's Friday today!!

2. I will be drinking coffee this morning till further notice.  It's just one of those mornings, ya know?

3. But this song, though horrid, always gets stuck in my head!!

(Hee! Hee!  Now it's in yours!!)

4. I'd like to throw all of the housework I have to do in the stream. Perhaps it would just float away???  Maybe I should just do it instead!!

5. It's always nice to wake up to the sun shining, the birds singing and the fresh smell of coffee.

6. We have small group on Sunday which is always good, especially now that we are studying Hosea, and is filled with pleasant company.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to doing some more of our couple study that the hubby and I are doing, and perhaps watching a movie, tomorrow my plans include driving people places and then doing the WHOLE large group time (twice!!) for Promiseland and Sunday, I want to relax, go to small group, and then relax some more!!

Hard Times

Well, the job prospects are looking more and more bleak.  They are laying off more staff in the school system this coming year.  So, what now?  What does God have in store?  I am not sure.  I know He has brought me to this place in time for a reason.  Maybe He's pushing me to something that I don't think I can do...like writing or something like that.  Anyway, I will wait and ask for prayer for patience and wisdom about what He wants me to do.  I will keep you posted.

In any case, Tangled comes out next week.  If you haven't seen it, please make sure you do.  It is REALLY good.  One of the best princess movies ever.  I pre-ordered my copy, if just so I can watch it.  I can't wait till it arrives on my doorstep!  Until then, here's the song from my favorite scene with the floating lanterns...So romantic and so beautiful.  I cried....

A Page from my Journal...March 18

Simple Woman\
FOR TODAY

Outside my window... It is going to be a lovely, yet chilly day.  Cars pass quickly on their way to work

I am thinking...  That I soon have to get Aidan up and dressed for school.  He has his Arts-Centered performance today.

I am thankful for... The nice weather we have been having lately.

From the kitchen...  The smell of coffee wafts in.  Mmmm coffee!

I am wearing...  Jeans, a long sleeved striped shirt with my black t-shirt over top (it has puffed sleeves!!)

I am creating... More videos soon of trips, birthdays, etc.  I hope to make some more DVDs soon.  The kids love watching themselves on TV!

I am going... To go to Aidan's school this morning and watch his performances.  Dancing and Choir!

I am reading... "Lake of Dreams" by Kim Edwards.  Its a bit eerie as it starts out with the main character living in Japan where they are experiencing lots of earthquakes....Perhaps it is too early to read a book with that kind of subject matter.

I am hoping... That the people in Japan are safe, and are going to be alright.  I pray for them often.

I am hearing...  The cars race pass and the coffee maker.

Around the house...  There are toys, clutter and dust.  A reminder that I need to clean before Aidan's party next week.

One of my favorite things...  Is just to sit in the silence before the kids get up.  So nice and calm...

A few plans for the rest of the week:  Well, church on Saturday, taxes, a Ranger meeting, laundry

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

Friday Fill-in: Party Animals

Tomorrow is Miss Ems 4th birthday party.  She is really excited.  I hope everything goes alright.  She wanted an Animal birthday, so that is what we are going with!  Should be awesome.

Since I am busy cleaning, baking and prepping for 23 people (adults and kids) to descend on our modest abode, I leave you with a Friday Fill-in today!!

1. Bring your favorite mug and we can do coffee together.  Wouldn't that be fun?  With all my friends, internet and in person?  It would be fun to meet y'all.

2. Batteries are included.  Ever.  In toys.  Blah.

3. This cold weather is exactly what is making me go a little bit wonky.  I long for sun, warmth and flowers, butterflies, picnics, bbqs, bike rides, park playdates....

4. Well, you see, I am tired.  It is still early in the morning and my coffee hasn't kicked in yet.  That should explain everything!

5. I hope Spring comes soon!

6. But what if it never stops being winter?

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to decorating a cake for Emma's party with my Mom (I love cake decorating!), tomorrow my plans include throwing a birthday party for Miss Ems and then going rollerskating with my Ranger group (Please pray I don't break anything!) and Sunday, I want to take care of my blisters (I know there will be some from rollerskating), rest and relax and then watch The Amazing Race!

Friday Fill-in: Camping

Off to camp today!!  Here's a little Friday Fill-in while I go pack!!

1. Ooooh, I have to go to camp this weekend.  Should be okay.  We are in buildings.  That will be nice.

2. It is so cold outside (-30*C/-22*F), I can't stand it!  I want spring to be here soon.  I want to do some gardening, play outside, go for walks...

3. How the heck did I end up with so many emails in my inbox?  I need to go through them again and trash a whole bunch....Time consuming, though.

4. The shoe store is one of my favorite places to visit.  I love shoes!!  I could have a whole room just devoted to shoe storage.  Wouldn't that be awesome???  Who's with me??

5. I'm not a lucky person, I'm not!  That being said, I have already won 2 coffees on Tim Horton's Roll Up the Rim to Win contest this year.  They have a button that the have to press and it makes a loud noise.  They also yell out "We have a winner!"  Makes you feel kinda special!!

6. I have been working on my testimony for Monday night and it has to be good.  Well, it doesn't have to be.  I just want to show God's work in my life for His Glory.  It has been fun to see where God has taken me.  Now if only I can find a song that I want to sing...

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to camp, tomorrow my plans include more camping and Sunday, I want to come home, take a shower, cuddle my kids and rest!
