As a wannabe writer, I love people watching. I love going places, sitting with a cup of coffee, and just watching the people walk past. I wonder what they are thinking or doing; who they are; where they are going...Of course, I also check out what shoes they are wearing.
Yesterday was no exception. I went to pick up my parents from the airport. They flew in from Toronto. While I was standing around waiting, I began doing my usually people watching pastime. There were the usual people waiting for family: grandparents, children, aunts and uncles.
There was an aunt and uncle that were so excited to see their nephew that they couldn't stand still. (Okay, the aunt couldn't!) At one point I thought she was going to run through the security doors, running madly toward her nephew!
Then there were the anxious people who kept checking the arrivals monitors to see if the plane that held their loved ones was here. Back and forth they went from their seats to the monitor. Pacing. Always pacing.
Then there were a few men dressed up for work, trying not to answer their cell phones or do any work while they waited. I wondered if they were meeting someone for business or personal? Were they looking forward to this meeting or not? Were they already moving ahead to what they had left undone at the office? Are his shoes real leather or fake?
There was a band on the flight with my parents. They came out just before my parents did, which was quite hilarious: All these guys trying to look cool with their instument carry-ons (i.e. a drum here, a guitar there...) I wondered who they were and if I should be asking them for their autographs. Ah well! The opportunity has passed.
The funniest part was a young couple with a little baby. They had the baby in a carseat, a huge suitcase and a gargantuan sized, plastic, Disney store labelled bag holding a ton and a half of diapers. The young mom looked at me and I just smiled. I have been there before!
There were lots of people to see. My parents arrived a few minutes late, but I kept myself entertained. What I can't believe is that Emma slept through it all!
