The Three Sisters - Tower above Canmore
Our weekend away was great. It was exactly what I needed and what the doctor ordered. We got a really good deal on a King Suite at the Pocaterra Inn Best Western in Canmore (click here). It was lovely. We had a fire place, a little kitchen place (with a sink and a small stereo). We had a jacuzzi and bath robes. All in all it was a great room.
Views from our hotel window...Why we go there!!
On Saturday night we went out for supper to the restaurant we always go to: The Grizzly House (click here). (Tina- you would love this place!!) I was going to take some pictures, but decided against it because we were surrounded by grease. The Grizzly House is a fondue restaurant. It really is an eating experience, not just a restaurant. You get a nice 4 course meal. We had soup, cheese and bread fondue, then your main course, then Toblerone chocolate fondue with fruit and cookies. It was divine. I had the wonderful Hunter Fondue with Buffalo meat, Venison and Wild Boar. It is so yummy. Jonathan had the Beef and Lobster Fondue. You have the option of using hot rocks (600 F) or oil. We usually get both. Anyway, the whole "experience" takes about 2 hours or so. Make reservations early, too! They book up quick!
Anyway, the food is good. The decor is...woody. Lots of wood paneling, shelves made out of tree branches and trunks (finished, but still tree branches). Each table has a phone that you can call other tables with. Jonathan did the obligatory phone call from the bathroom. He hung up before I could say anything because it didn't ring on his end. Meanwhile, a girl at a table opposite to us, saw me hang up and then dialed my number. I picked up expecting it to be Jonathan. Which is what she said to me when I answered. It was funny!! She continued to call other tables all night long!!
It used to be a disco, back in the day. So the dance floor can get a bit slippery with all that oil. Anyway, they used to get food from the Chinese restaurant next door. (Yes, through a hole in the wall!!) When that place closed down, they brought in the fondue pots and a new place was born. It really is worth a visit, if you are ever in Banff. It is right on Banff avenue, so you can't miss it!!
We made it home safe and sound on Sunday afternoon. The only problem with these weekends away is that they just go by too quickly...
A Rare Photo of Jonathan...driving home through construction!
