YAHOO!!

It is the beginning of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede! The parade starts at 8:51am, but won't be on TV until about 9:30-10:00. The TV stations are right at the end of the parade. And (after so many years of watching and televising it) there are certain channels on which you do not watch the parade coverage. I usually like CFCN (CTV) because they sometimes have Buckshot doing some of the street coverage (i.e. talking to the people, etc.). Buckshot hosted a children's television show with his friend Benny the Bear. I was on the show for my birthday, as were most Calgarian children in the 80s! It was very awesome!! (Click here to watch some)

Anyway, back to the Stampede. We usually take the kids down for the day and go on the midway. It is fun for them. This year my Mom, my sister and I are taking them down. We bought ride braclets this year, so you get to ride all day for one price ($35). That may seem expensive, but in reality, it is the best deal!! The ride tickets are a unbelievably expensive on the grounds.

There is a lot to see down there, too! We usually watch the SuperDogs, which Aidan thinks is hilarious!! We also eat lots! Especially "Those Mini Donuts" which totally went up in price last year. They are yummy!

The real show is the Rodeo, which as Calgarians we won't forget to tell you. (As kids, well, we might have thought it was all about the rides!!) The chuckwagon races are my favorite. They were always announced by Joe Carbury. Unfortunately, last year he retired. I don't think they will be the same without him.

Every day ends with fireworks, which we can hear and only see a few, from our bedroom window! Can't be any louder than the parties our neighbour has been having at 3:30 in the morning!!
