Friday night Jen and I were going down to see the chuckwagon races. This was totally exciting, since we both love the chucks. Add to that the bonus of getting to go to the barns afterwards and meet the driver for the WestJet wagon, Kurt Bensmiller. We were very excited.
Since we were planning to stay so late at the grounds (till around midnight) we decided to park around the grounds. The parking that they have at the Stampede is only $11/day. Of course there is not much of that to go around. The lots were full when we got there.
The next option was to park in one of the over-priced parking lots that spring up from the empty lots where construction workers are looking to make a few extra bucks. There were 2 of these: one $30/day and one $40/day. I know!! YIKES!!
So we decided to drive around and see if anyone was pulling out on the street, which is free!! Luckily, we found a spot right away. We parked it and walked the 3 blocks to the grounds.
We had a wonderful time. (Minus Jenny feeling sick and the soreness of our legs from standing around so much!) It was a great time and we got to meet the horses and see the chucks up close. Very cool!
On our way back to the car, we passed a couple who were standing outside their truck in shock. Their truck had at least 4 parking tickets. They had accidentally parked in a bus zone. Jenny and I had made a comment about it not being us and kept walking.
We were almost at the car when I noticed a "No Parking" sign right by our car. I never saw it when we were parking since there was so many other SUVs and vans. And guess what??? Yes, that's right. My free parking became $36.00 parking.
All this is to say that nothing in this life is free, except Christ.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
John 8:36
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1
Thank goodness for that!
