20th Anniversary of the Winter Olympics

They were talking on the news at lunch about the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the 1988 Winter Olympics. They are even having some of the athletes come back and take part (i.e. Elizabeth Manley, Eddie the Eagle, a member of the Jamaican bobsled team...).

For me, I was 9 years old. I remember getting up really early to watch the run of the torch in front of our community center (in my Guide uniform). Then, at school, we had our own torch relay. People sponsored us to run with a fake torch.

We didn't get the tickets we wanted for figure skating, but we did get to go watch some bobsledding. Cold, but fun.

My parents were really great about dragging us around to a lot of the functions, medal ceremonies, etc. Everyone knew someone involved in some aspect of the Olympics. Everyone was involved. It will always be a highlight of my childhood.

The feeling in the air was amazing. I can't believe that it has been 20 years. I wonder where my Olympic souvenirs are?
