July 4th!!

Happy 4th of July!!

It is also the beginning of the Calgary Stampede. Always a good time! We will be watching the parade on TV this year. No need to drag ourselves out of bed at 6 to watch the parade... Plus, I can stay in our PJs.

Happy Canada Day!!

When we were at camp this past weekend, there were a few families from other countries that had moved here. One night while Jonathan and I were sitting outside we overheard two guys talking about moving here from Germany. This is how it went (imagine two guys with German accents):

"My dad was always worried about the Russians rolling in with their tanks at any moment. That's why he wanted to move here. Once he was here he never worried about that again." (the older fellow)

"Yeah, there's no need to worry here!" (younger guy)

"This is the country of individual rights, freedoms... No need to worry here." (the older fellow)

It was amazing to here our country described as such, especially so close to Canada Day. As Canadians, we know that this is true. We forget. At least I do. This was a good reminder about why Canada is such a great place to live. On this day, let us remember how blessed we are to live in such a wonderful place.

Dory is Dead!!

I killed her.

I didn't mean to, but I did.

It was quick. I am sure she felt nothing. Perhaps some pain from her unfortunate fall. She was just trying to be free. I am sure she didn't suffer.

I didn't even notice until this morning. By then the damage was already done. Poor girl didn't even stand a chance. (Of course, we don't really know if it was a girl or not!!)

Poor Dory.

There she lies in her final resting place because I cannot bring myself to do the inevitable. Once I do, it will cause questions and accusations that I am not prepared for. I have no experience. She was, after all, my first.

I guess I will do what needs to be done, as hard as it may be. But before I do, let us pause for a moment to remember the wonderful (if but too short) life of Dory...Dory the fish.
